On November 19th, 2012 the Bulgarian Archives State Agency together with Sofia University will host a workshop entitled

Archives, Universities, and Libraries in the Digitization of the National Cultural and Historic Heritage.

This is the second workshop the Agency is organizing together with the University in order to respond to the ever-growing need to adequately work with digital and digitally-born documents in the conditions of modern technologies.

The first workshop entitled Archives at the Dawn of E-Government was held in June 2012.

This second workshop will feature

  • discussions of the technical aspects of digitization,
  • the end-users of the digital and digitally-born documents
  • and the reevaluation of the archival profession with a special emphasis on good practices applicable to the new ways of working.

The Bulgarian participants will come from the Archives State Agency, different faculties of the Sofia University, the Sofia and Varna National Libraries. Non-Bulgarian participants will represent 10 European archival institutions, the national archives of the United States and ICARUS – the International Center for Archival Research.

ICARUS will be present with the lecture: Monasterium.net – Foundations and the evolution of a digitisation project.

It is the hope of the organizers that some of the insights from the Workshop will be published in a booklet and will become easily available for other archives, universities and libraries.
